Abstract: This article aims to analyze the attitudinal shifts of 10 housewives participating as volunteers in a living laboratory regarding the management of organic waste derived from cooking and household consumption residues. In 2023, the national volume of organic waste from cooking and consumption reached 39.43%, or 22.33 million tons, out of a total of 56.63 million tons annually (Ministry of Environment and Forestry [KLHK], 2024b); however, specific data for Riau and Pekanbaru remain unavailable. If this waste is processed directly at the household level into Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) derived from leachate, it is estimated that waste reduction of up to 30 tons per month could be achieved within the village. This community engagement initiative was conducted in Agrowisata Village, Pekanbaru City, employing an Empowerment Ethnography design involving 10 families as a living laboratory, with the technological intervention of a 60-liter capacity composter. The findings reveal a radical perceptual shift, wherein 100% of the respondents now perceive kitchen residues as a productive resource, demonstrating an absolute intention to implement the practice. This article argues that appropriate technology, when synergized with local wisdom and the subsistence cycles of household yards, can dismantle the technocratic hegemony of waste management while offering a realistic transitional pathway toward food sovereignty and urban ecological resilience.
